FAQs
What are wax melts and how do they work?
Wax melts are pieces of scented wax, designed in various stunning colours, glitters, sizes and shapes that when heated on the top of a wax melt burner or warmer they release a beautiful aroma into the room which can last for long periods making them an affordable way to fragrance your home.
How long do wax melts last and how often should I change them?
The longevity of wax melts varies depending on the brand, fragrance, and size of the melt. Generally, wax melts can last anywhere from a several hours to several days, depending on how often you use the warmer and how much wax you use at one time. Tea light wax melt burners typically burn hotter, providing a stronger scent throw. However, this can lead to a quicker evaporation of the fragrance oils. On the other hand, electric burners, which gently warm the wax using a lamp, usually result in a more subtle fragrance release
You can continue to use your melt until the fragrance fades, however I don't recommend using tea light burners for longer than 4 hours at a time, as they can get very hot. You'll know it's time to change the wax melt when the fragrance starts to fade. At that point, you can discard the wax and replace it with a fresh melt.
How do I change my wax melt?
The easiest way we’ve found is to turn on or light a tealight and leave for around 30 seconds. Then whilst stabilising the burner with one hand, you should be able to slide the old wax out with the other.
Are wax melts safe around pets/children?
At Edinburgh Wax Melts, we pride ourselves on using soy wax, steering clear of paraffin, a by-product of petroleum production, to ensure the purity of our wax melt ingredients.
Paraffin is coloured as it is a waste product and then bleached to make it white. We certainly wouldn’t want to breathe any fumes from this, or allow our customers or pets to!
As long as wax melts are kept out of reach and sight of children and pets, and are made out of natural wax (not paraffin) and are crafted correctly, they are perfectly safe.
Why are wax melts better than candles?
1. Wax melts offer a more consistent fragrance release as they slowly melt and release aroma into the air.
2. Wax melts are safer than candles as there is no open flame with electric burners, and only a small tealight with traditional burners, reducing the risk of fire hazards.
3. They are also more efficient as you can burn them until the fragrance fades without any wastage, while candles often leave behind a lot of unused wax.
4. Wax melts come in a wide range of scents, and you can change fragrances quickly, unlike candles where you have to stick to one scent per candle.
5. Wax melts are also more budget-friendly as they are cheaper to make and can be reused multiple times.
